You must have felt apparition pain in your throat at times that has left you wondering the cause of the same since you do not have any infection or swelling. There is high possibility of tonsil stones in your throat in such cases. These are very small pea-sized formations clinging to the folds of the throat.

The reason why these stones are so hard is due to the presence of phosphorus and similar minerals. When these stones grow in size, they can cause you extreme discomfort. The small stones, since they are little, are incapable of causing any problem, but there always lies the probability that they may grow in size and cause pain and distress, troubling you on a daily basis till you get them removed.

Symptoms It is not always possible to spot these stones in your throat by using a mirror. The condition of tonsil stones is accompanied by many symptoms, and you'll be required to be on the lookout for those too. The most common symptom is halitosis. It is also the most easily occurring sign of presence of tonsil stones. A tonsil stone, or tonsillolith as it is medically known, is due to calcified, hardened formation in the throat around the tonsil region.

Even though bad breath indicates the onset of many other problems in our body, it should never be treated simply as having a bad smelling mouth. It is a very telling sign of something wrong in our body.

The problem of halitosis is triggered by the production of sulfuric compounds by the bacteria living in the mouth and throat. With the multiplication of the bacteria, the sulfuric compound production also grows resulting in bad breath.

The bad breath is not the only activity of these micro-invaders; these bacteria also lead to the formation of the tonsil stones. If you experience any kind of soreness with swelling in the throat then this too is a probability that you are facing the problem of tonsil stones in your throat.

Although throat inflammation can also be attributed to a lot of causes, more often than not, it is a very prominent sign of foreign substances present in the throat walls i.e. presence of stones in our tonsil area. If there is a presence of white debris in your throat area, it is definitely another symptom of the tonsil stones developing in your throat.

A healthy throat should not witness any debris. However, an ENT specialist who deals with the ears nose and throat should be consulted in case there are large white formations in the throat. Ear pain is another symptom closely associated with tonsil stones. An inexplicable ear pain is the third symptom that points out to the presence of tonsil stones in your throat.

The shared nerve network running between the throat, eyes and ears is very sensitive and can cause a phantom pain in ears. Any problem in the throat area can be felt through a pain in the other parts as well of the closely tied system.

Tonsil stone removal A safe and ideal method of stone removal would be getting a surgery done by an ENT specialist. You are given a mild local anesthesia that just numbs your affected area so that you suffer from minimum pain, and it does not make you unconscious. Also, this surgery is really minor in nature and there is no reason to be alarmed for having to go through it.
