This are the kind of children that for one reason or another, they cannot find themselves in decent schools. Some of them include those that are found on streets for whatever reason. Some of them are those that come from very needy backgrounds. These ones may also not be able to cater for the private schools that are really expensive. As such, the governments of different countries have come up with the strategy of getting the disadvantaged groups also benefit from education.
The aid for these schools is sought from any various places. The finances may be solely provided by the government. Sometimes, when the government really has this project and has no means of funding it, they may resort to other means such as sourcing for external financial aid. Some of the nongovernmental organizations usually come in to assist in the sourcing of these funds in order to help the needy children in the world.
The whole idea of the venture is to provide to the less privileged what all the others are enjoying. In an educational setting, the essential things usually are those needed to facilitate tutoring and learning. These include well trained and qualified tutors, learning materials, food, boarding facilities, school attire and all the teaching materials. These may not be of the standards that the students would love to have, but they at least are the king that can sustain them through their studies.
The program has got quite a number of advantages attached to it. When both the tutors and the students are committed to doing their part, the end products are usually just amazing. The students end up becoming very useful in society. Besides, evils such as drug abuse, robberies as well as immorality are reduced. This is because the energy of youth, who would otherwise have been idle, is channeled towards more productive activities in the education sector.
However, there are some disadvantages that accompany this activity. Once the project has been set running, there usually is no very close monitoring of the students and the teachers. This may lead to negligence by some teachers especially those that are usually after money instead of being in their professions to serve. Some students due to lack of close monitoring may also go astray and begin indulging in some harmful activities such as the use of drugs.
Some of the recommendations for this form of undertaking include close monitoring. The tutors must be closely monitored so as to ensure that they deliver in their activities of educating the young ones. Serious disciplinary measures should also be put in place so as to ensure that the young ones do not indulge in destructive activities.
