The Common Core Standards Kindergarten Math Requirements Are Functional

All of the children attempting to graduate from kindergarten must meet certain standards in math This is regardless of where they attend school within the United States. These standards are set up to ensure a basic set of skills in this important subject. Testing or assessing the children in a timely manner to determine their need for additional help should be performed in accordance with the regulations put forth by the local school boards. A listing of many of the common core standards kindergarten math requirements will be looked at, below.

The ability to count, by ones and tens, to 100 and to also be able to count by ones from any designated point in a number line. The students should also be able to write the numbers between 1 and 20 from a verbal statement. They are to also understand that an oral or written number is a representation of a count of objects. An example would be that 15 can be compared to 15 apples.

The students should be able to count objects in order to answer the question about how many items there are present. They will also be able to compare and identify whether there are less than or more than a certain number based on their count. This is the beginning of the concepts of higher math they will be involved in later on.

Acting out the addition and subtraction concepts. This can be done with the use of solid objects to form a base and either adding to this group or taking away from this group. This exercise can also help in the comparisons of the numbers of one through the number ten.

Be able to understand that the numbers one through nineteen are composed of two elements, a ten and ones. Understand how they work to make the ready supply of numbers we have. Also be able to gauge the dimensions of common objects finding and illustrating width, length and height.

The concept that 0 is a representation of a count of 0. They will show understanding of all of these elements of math by engaging in conversations with teachers and classmates about how many things are present. Commonly used measurements can be used for this purpose as they identify height, width and length of various things inside and outside of the classroom.

A few examples of the many different kinds of conversations that can be had using the above guidelines can be asking how many kids can be placed on the merry go round. A count of the number of clouds in a certain space of sky is also a good conversational point. These commonly accepted measurement units can be used to show understanding of these ideas.

These criteria have been set up to ensure a basic understanding of the concepts needed in later schooling. These common core standards kindergarten math assessment tools should be used to attain and maintain the skills sets that are necessary for the world class education we need to be known for. These standards are objective and measurable and hold the teachers and students accountable.
