Elementary teacher resources fall into two categories - those designed to help the teacher and those designed to help the student. Of course, bottom line, they all help both. But, some are to be used strictly by the teacher, and others are to be shared with the student.

A big impact has been made on education with the coming of the internet. Information can be accessed on the spot, just by entering a search term. It is almost like getting an college education with all the information that is accessible by all. Almost all information learned in college is available to access online. It is often true that the most benefit from some information is best realized when the teaching actually starts.

The internet is also a great resource for to use for students. Interactive games can be found to teach about any concept in any subject. Kids learn much better when they get to "do something" and see all the action that a game gives them. Also, doing their own research to find answers helps them understand and remember it better and longer. More information is available on the internet research than can ever be included in a textbook. It is an excellent resource for the classroom.

Educators use lesson plans daily. They help do a better job. Many times they write their own, using their own plans, but that is not always necessary. Sometimes, that is what is best, but prepared lesson plans are also good. This gives the advantage of sharing experience and knowledge of another who may have already taught that particular lesson. It is a good thing to share information, giving both parties the advantage of the other's knowledge.

Both student and educator benefit from books on professional development. The information obtained from them when they read and study them makes the educator better at their job. They can find information about child development, new techniques in the field, and new developments.

Though worksheets have become a pariah in education, they are necessary and serve a good purpose at times. They are great for drilling basic facts in any subject. Also, for a bell-ringer type activity, they are perfect. The student can complete them independently while the record keeping and other household tasks are taken care of. There are books of reproducible sheets. Also, there are sites on the internet that makes it possible to print them out, and sometimes it is even possible for the educator to construct their own.

Nothing is better for reinforcing teaching concepts than are puzzles and games. They can be purchased from commercial suppliers, made by the educator themselves, or printed off the internet. Students also love to make their own, working in pairs or teams. Any way to make learning more fun will result in more learning and longer retention rates.

Webquests have come into being as excellent elementary teacher resources. These are activities planned to around a list of websites that the student visits and does certain activities. They may have to look for a particular piece of information. It is sometimes called a scavenger hunt, and is played like one. The students may be grouped in teams or may work alone. With very young students, it may be better to do the webquest as a whole group.
